Bria Skonberg released a new album “Nothing Never Happens” on 1 November 2019.
She is a trumpeter, as well as a singer, and the first time I saw her was in 2016 at the Birdland in NY by chance. She was a member of the David Ostwald’s Louis Armstrong Eternity Band on the day. The band performed many songs one of which was Dream A Little Dream Of Me. I was impressed with her performance and I soon bought her CD album “Bria”. Most tracks have slow to mid-tempo, and they sound like New Orleans Jazz. So they ease my heart. Also, these songs have a good jazz rhythm and I can’t get tired of them. The good news was that the album won the Juno Award for Jazz Album of the Year in 2017.
The next album “With a Twist” became more upbeat and I got excited and enjoyed listening to the album. While the previous album was very soothing and relaxing, this album really gets me going.
Now, about the new album. I was surprised when I listened to the songs at first. These were different from former albums with slow-mid tempo songs. This album is so modern that I didn’t think it was that good. However, my mind has changed the second time I listened to it. It was very powerful and I could certainly understand her feelings and messages. These songs resonated with me. Besides, the music of this album is much more vigorous and it gives a completely different type of energy.
Finally, I’m addicted to this album and it inspires me to get moving, it gives me life zest.
